Trains from Geneva to Morzine
Most people who are travelling from abroad to Morzine start their journey with a flight to Geneva airport.
From there, many people would then like to take the train from Geneva to Morzine, but sadly as there is no train line to Morzine, it just isn’t possible.
Instead, as of December 2019, the best option is to take the Léman Express to Thonon-les-Bains, which is about 40 minutes from Morzine.
Geneva to Morzine via Thonon-les-Bains on the Train
Thonon-les-Bains is small town located 32 km north-west of Morzine and on the shores of Lake Geneva.
If you’re at Geneva Airport you’ll start your journey by taking the train to Geneva’s central station (Geneva Cornavin station).
From there, catch the new Léman Express train. You’ll need the L1 (red) line and the trains leave roughly every hour. The journey should take 57 minutes.
From Thonon-les-Bains, you’ll need to take a local bus (Line 91 Sat Leman) or book a transfer with us – just select SNCF Thonon-les-Bains Station when getting a quote. The travel time from Thonon to Morzine is about 40 minutes.
An Easy Alternative to Taking the Train from Geneva to Morzine

Travelling by Train from the UK to Morzine
Again, travelling from the UK to Morzine on the train isn’t strictly possible. This is because there is no train line going to the town of Morzine.
The closest you can get to Morzine on the train is either Thonon-les-Bains station or Cluses station. Both are about 40 minutes away by road so from there you have to take a local bus or a taxi.
Alternatively, the easiest thing is to take the train to Geneva and then hop in one of our transfers to Morzine. More on that in the next section.
Travelling by train can be more civilised, more environmentally friendly and allow you to bring skis or bikes without paying added charges some people prefer this option to flying.
To get from the UK to Morzine (almost) on the train you’ll need to start by taking the Euro Tunnel to Paris.
In Paris, you’ll arrive at the Gard du Nord and take a connecting train to Paris Gare de Lyon.
For Cluses
From Paris Gare de Lyon take the TGV Lyria train that is going to Geneva (9785) – you need to get off and change at Bellegarde-sur-Valserine. This is a fast train and will get you to Bellegarde-sur-Valserine in just 2 hours 40 minutes.
At Bellegarde-sur-Valserine you will take the train to Saint-Gervais-les-Bains-Le Fayet (96526) but get off at Cluses. This will take 1 hour and 23 minutes.
From Cluses, you’ll need to take a local bus (Line 91 Sat Annemasse) or book a taxi – a travel time of about 50 minutes.
For Thonon-Les-Bains
From Paris Gare de Lyon take the TGV Lyria train to Geneva Cornavin (9785). This is a fast train and will get you there in just in just 3 hours 11 minutes.
From there, catch the new Léman Express train. You’ll need the L1 (red) line and the trains leave roughly every hour. The journey should take 57 minutes.
From Thonon-les-Bains, you’ll need to take a local bus (Line 91 Sat Leman) or book a transfer with us – just select SNCF Thonon-les-Bains when getting a quote. The travel time from Thonon to Morzine is about 40 minutes.
The Easiest Way to Get from the UK to Morzine by Train: Go to Geneva
If you’d like to travel to Morzine on the train but the hassle of changing onto the local bus in Thonon-les-Bains or Cluses is putting you off, we have a nice little travel hack that may help.
The journey starts in the same way, take the Eurostar from the UK to Paris.
Then, instead of taking the train to Thonon or Cluses, simply take the train from Paris to Geneva.
This train, which is operated by SNCF, only stops twice before arriving in Geneva and therefore only takes 3 and a quarter hours.
Then, from Geneva Cornavin train station you have two options depending on your circumstance and budget:
- You can book a private transfer from Geneva Cornavin station to Morzine with us – prices vary depending on the number of people you have in your group.
- You can book a shared transfer from Geneva Airport to Morzine with us. Geneva Airport is a 10-minute train ride from Geneva Cornavin.
